Wide Shoes for Healthier Feet
How to determine if you need wide shoes. - Do your feet hurt?
- Do your ankles swell?
- Do you have bunions?
- Do you have calluses?
- Do your shoes leave marks on your feet?
I am definitely not a Podiatrist, but I know these are signs of improperly fitting shoes. I’ve had two surgeries on my feet and I’ve seen many Podiatrists in my time. Through my own observations as well as my doctors informing me, women make up most Podiatry patients. Traditionally, women shoe fashions are of really bad design and pose serious problems to human feet. Our shoes have a tendency to be too narrow. Even though wide shoes are better for your feet, many of our shoes come to a tapered point at the toe. I know it’s cute, but a Podiatrist will advise against wearing shoes like this. If you are experiencing foot problems, I even advise against it. Think about teeth. When someone gets braces, what happens? Pressure is applied to the teeth (which are bones) and over time, the teeth begin to shift in place. The same thing happens while wearing poorly fitting shoes year after year. If your shoes are too narrow, in time, your bones will begin to shift. This is why so many ladies have bunions. Bunions are a protruding bone growth adjacent to the large toe. And, the large toe usually is crooked, leaning into the second toe. That’s not a medical definition, but you get the point. As a plus size woman, you want to avoid foot problems at all cost. Foot problems can cause a host of other posture related problems. Let’s take care of our feet ladies. There are plus size shoes for us that are still cute, stylish and yes even sexy. Advice #1: With shoes, comfort trumps all. Make sure you wear womens plus size shoes, because foot pain should not be tolerated for the sake of cuteness. Trust me, since my two surgeries, I have a hard time wearing heals now. I’m relegated to flats only. That’s not always cute…but I’m getting by. Take care of your feet by making sure you have enough room in your shoes. Also, be sure your toes are not encumbered in any way. Do this and you will be able to strut your stuff in sexy shoes for a long time to come. Advice #2: Don’t be cheap with your shoes. I’d rather carry a cheap, no name purse and wear expensive, soft shoes any day then the other way around. I know we are women. We want to have the Prada bag and hot shoes too. If you can’t afford to do both, then my point simply is, don’t skimp on your shoes. You’ll either pay now (for good shoes) or you’ll pay later with bad feet.
