Plus Size Sportswear for
Fashion and Exercise

Plus size sportswear comes in so many cute styles and fabrics these days. My personal favorite are hooded sport tops with cotton capri bottoms. Combine that with a cute set of matching tennis shoes and you’re stylin’.

This is an outfit that you can wear to the gym or to the mall. It’s a quick and easy outfit that you don’t have to work too hard to get wrong.

Activewear Capris The plus size sportswear I choose to wear is usually not ‘frumpy’ unless I’m staying home all day. Super thick, cotton, jersey sweat suits can look ‘frumpy’. I might wear this when I’m not feeling well, or when Aunt ‘Flow’ is visiting. However, this is definitely not the look I want when I'm in public.

In the fall and winter months when it’s cold, wear warm clothing. Try velour active wear, it is still very much in style. It is just as soft and comfortable. But, it also can be accessorized and made to look more upscale.

Just by wearing a little jewelry such as a necklace, bracelet and earrings can bring that plus size active wear to a new level of sophistication.

Advice #1: Wear casual shoes with your active wear.

Accessorizing your active wear doesn’t mean you should wear 3 inch heels. Your shoes should definitely match your outfit. I think it looks funny to see someone wearing dress shoes with an obvious sweat suit.

Want to exercise?

I guess I can’t assume everyone wants to wear sports attire just to look cute, right? Some of us actually wear sweats to work out. Below, you’ll find links to places that sell gym clothes, leotards, dance clothes, jogging/walking suits, etc.

Cotton is by far the best for sweat absorption. Loose fitting nylon might keep you a bit cooler. Spandex is a great material for stretching exercises and walking. Again, use your personal judgment and find the best fitting outfit for you.

I’m all about comfort and cuteness, but if your active wear is for exercising, then look for comfort first.

When you purchase plus size sportswear, you also need to consider sports bras. Many of us need extra support up top. Proper support is essential with your workout attire. So, when you are done here, read about plus size bras.
