Plus Size Petite Clothing, What is it?

I suspect you know if you are petite and wear plus size petite clothing. However, we are going to start off with a formal definition of petite. According to Merriam-Webster, petite is a clothing size for short women.

There are common misconceptions about petite clothing, especially in department stores. The misconception is that petites are for small women. Not true. Petite is about height, not weight.

Typically 5’4” and under is considered petite, but that also depends on your body type. I’m 5’5” and can wear most plus size petite clothing just fine. But sometimes plus size petite pants are a little short on me. I’m sort of in the gray area.

For those women who are plus size petites, you have an added burden of finding clothes off the rack that fit you perfectly. Don’t be discouraged though. I’m seeing more and more clothes offered for us all the time.

Petite Plus Size Clothing is not just about leg length either. Women who have shorter upper bodies fall into this category. Are your arms short? What about your trunk – the distance between your neck and waist? If your upper body is short then you might want to buy petite tops.

Also, if you are a petite woman and not handy with a sewing machine, then I’d definitely suggest you buy petite clothes.

Like I said earlier, I’m in the gray area. Some petites are too short and some regulars are too long. So I have to be proficient with the sewing machine or pay alteration fees.

I find that when I buy pants large enough to go over my hips and ‘boo-tay’, I usually have to cut off and hem my pant legs. This is just a fact of life for me. I wish I was an extra inch taller so I could get by with regulars. Such is life.

The availability of women’s petite plus size clothing is growing. Let’s face it women, we are no longer the minority. I’m not bragging about being plus size but the population is definitely getting bigger. And, more petite plus size clothes are coming on the market everyday.
