Common Mistakes Wearing The Plus Size PantSuit and Skirt
The plus size pantsuit, skirt or long skirt is typically the outfit that makes plus size women look stuffy. What do I mean by stuffy? I see a lot of plus size women looking as if they are hot and uncomfortable wearing their suits. When was the last time you saw a woman wearing a plus size pantsuit that made her look stunning? Now when was the last time you saw plus size a woman wearing a suit that looked tight and uncomfortable and made her look stuffy? Probably yesterday, right?
Many times, we simply don’t choose the right suit for our body type. We also don’t wear the right size and/or it’s not tailored for us. Let’s stop that trend today and learn to choose fashionable suits that will bring compliments our way. This article will be full of Do’s and Don’ts because I believe plus size suits can either make women look fabulous or hideous. Unfortunately, far too many of us larger women look hideous in our suits. Well, that’s about to stop.
Don’ts: Advice #1: Don’t wear a long suit jackets if you are petite. It will make you look shorter and rounder. Advice #2: Don’t wear long suit skirts if you are petite. It will make you look shorter and stumpy. Advice #3: Don’t wear a double breast suit jacket if your mid section/stomach extends farther than your breasts. Those buttons will only draw attention to your stomach area. Advice #4: Don’t wear thick sweaters or thick shirts under your suit jacket. If it’s winter, wear an overcoat to keep warm. Wearing a thick sweater will only make your suit look tight and stuffy.
Do’s: Advice #6: Do spend as much money as you can afford on your suit. I admit, a plus size suit will cost more than other suits, but it’s worth the money. Normally when you wear a suit, you are dressing to impress. A more expensive suit will feel better, fit better and look more elegant. For that reason, you should buy the best you can afford. Advice #7: Do, do, do, do, do….have your suit tailored for you! Businessmen do this all the time. Why not us? We can’t always wear things straight from the rack. This is vital if you want to look stunning. Your suit shouldn’t look like any plus size suit. Your suit needs to look as if it were made just for you. Advice #8: Do wear your skirt to accentuate your curves. For those who have great legs, wear shorter skirts. For those who have great hips, choose a skirt to hug your hips. Most of the time, I would say comfort is Queen. But let’s face it, suits are not the most comfortable attire you’ll ever wear, so you might as well wear the suit that makes you look stunning. Advice #9: If you choose to wear a plus size pantsuit, Do wear boot cut pants. Currently, boot cut pants are fashionably and trendy. Peg legs or pants that are sharply tapered in at the calves and ankles are not. Besides, peg leg suits just don’t look good on larger women. It only makes your suit look tight and uncomfortable. Advice #10: Do accessorize with a simple strand of pearls or a simple gold necklace, stud earrings and maybe a small pendant. Less is best with suits. I realize that was a lot of Do’s and Don’ts but if you apply even half of the advice given, you’ll look better than most women in their plus size pantsuit. Since suits are typically one of the most expensive garments in your closet, take your time the next time you shop for one. Pass up the suit on sale for $29.95. Remember, you want to look fabulous and stunning.
