Buying plus size career clothing can be challenging and frustrating for so many of us. As a plus size woman and career woman, one of my biggest challenges is maintaining a set of work clothes. What I mean is, personally my weight fluctuates but I don’t always want to buy yet another set of work clothes. I’m sure some of you can relate to having an extra 15 lbs mysteriously find it’s way to your rear end. Then before you know it, you can’t fit your work clothes anymore.
The reverse happens as well. Sometimes, I have a really great period and loose a significant amount of weight. That’s called ‘yo-yo’ing’, and I’m a pro at it. The saying is, dress for the job you want and not necessarily for the job you have. Plus size professional clothing can make you look really good and qualified for the job you want. I know from experience that if you dress professionally, promotions will (or might) be offered to you. If you have an office job or a job that requires you to dress in business/professional attire, it is essential to wear clothes made for you – plus size. Even if your job is a casual work place, consistent professional attire can often times get you noticed and a promotion. To help eliminate the challenges and frustrations in buying and maintaining your career clothing, consider keeping all of your clothes that are within 3 sizes of each other. Don’t throw away or give away your clothes because you lost a little weight. Rather pack up the clothes that no longer fit and store them in the attic or another closet somewhere. If you ‘yo-yo’ like me, then you really need to save your clothes. Example: Say you currently wear a size 20W. You should keep your clothes that are a size 18W and a size 22W. This will keep you from having to completely replace your work attire. Stylish and fashionable, plus size career clothing is not cheap. So minimize the amount you have to purchase by keeping all you can. Be strategic about it without hording. When you’ve mastered the ‘yo-yo’ syndrome, then feel free to let it all go.
